Feng Zhu Design

Here is some of Feng Zhu's sketches of conceptual buildings. The style of the buildings is quite suitable for a small town.

Major project - References animations

1 - Figaro Pho Sciophobia (Shadows) ep 19

The setting in Figaro Pho's animations is quite close to what I want for my project. The modelling in this animation is nicely exaggerated. The colour scheme is also very harmonious.

2 - Figaro Pho Nephophobia (Clouds) ep 14

The textures used in this episode are quite sophisticated. The models look quite old like antiques. The feeling of antique is what I would apply to my models.

3 - How to Train Your Dragon 3D Trailer

The protagonist's town is quite inspirational.

MMD_Main Project Synopsis

Concept

If you had a special prop that can read people’s mind for a limited time, what would you do? Is it really going to be nice if you have it?

Setting

A small town located in a mountainous area. It’s quiet and peaceful.

Plot

The main character (say A, male) is a young alchemist or inventor who makes a lot of interesting stuffs. He spends so much time on his works that he doesn’t really have friends.

He doesn’t realize his loneliness until one day he finds the indifferences to him from people when shopping. Then he decides to change that.

He goes back to his lab. He accidentally finds a book that teaches how to make a lens to read people’s mind. However, there are only several finite times to use the lens. He starts to design a mind-reading lens. He tries so hard and eventually he makes it.

Things change dramatically in the town after he starts to use the lens. He does some test to confirm that it works. Then he uses it a lot to involve himself in the crowd and make him himself popular.

One day, his friend (say B, female) comes to his home and coincidently finds the book on how to make mind-reading lens. She is so upset and annoyed and she runs out of his home.

He feels so shameful about himself. He gradually loses his friends from then on and his life goes back to the beginning. He becomes lonely again.

Finally he realizes that he should treat people sincerely rather than cheat them. He figures out a way to fix his relationships with others in the end by sincerely treating everyone.

My virtual stairs

This is what I made during the MMD class. The concept of my work is originally from stairs. :p

First concept

I have just sketched the concept of the 'growing tree' for the stop motion animation. The concept is just to show a rough idea about what we are planning to make. The tree basically consists of triangles and some rectangles. The tree is quite modular and could be easily transformed or deconstructed for animation purpose.

Start from triangles

This triangle here made by Emily(Archi) in our group is the point where we start to have ideas for stop motions. We had different versions of combinations of triangles. Eventually we came up with the idea of 'growth' for our animation. So the key idea is that we make a whole lot of triangles and probably other shapes as well to construct a virtual tree branches and leaves. The narrative of our animation is to express the changes of the seasons through the tree branches' growth and fading.
